Eat like a local in Thailand

In May 2007, I had a chance visiting home in Thailand. I haven’t come back for 7 years. Beside my family and friends, what I’ve always missed is authentic Thai food. Speaking of Thai food, the first thing that come to most people’s mind is spicy, but actually there are varieties of Thai food that you can enjoy them without burning your tongue.

Here are top noodle dishes and street food I always love

Kuaytiew reua or Boat noodle khown as dark soy sauce, pickled bean curd and some other spices, and is normally served with meatballs and pig's liver(mostly contains pork blood and ton of herb). It seem wried but when you have tried it, you will ark for more

Yen ta fo or Pink noodle also known as the Chinese equivalent of Yong Tau Foo or the 'pink soup noodle' in Thai, is characterized by Thai rice noodles soaked in a pink and mildly sweet sauce. Mostly contains fish balls, squid, morning glory ,crispy wonton ,fried tofu and cilantro. I never get tired of this noodle soup.

Kuay jub. The noodles are rolled into hand rolled cigarette looking shapes and the soup is a combination of pig intestines and blood jelly! Some version is chicken (may contains chicken feet) I like pork style better.

Kuaytiew tom yum moo. I grew up with this one. and I can not deny this dish ever. The soup is just like Tom yom soup with rich hint of lime and cilantro. The broth is pork and crush peanut . Peanut allergy may say " Mai sai tou " which mean no peanut. Do not miss it

Kuay tiew sai nue. This intestin noodle is really hard to find. There is only one place in my town selling it (Wisetchaichan, Angthong). The broth is beef .The noodle is combination of cow intestine, tender and tribes. My brothers love them till dead.

Kuaytiew Ped . BBQ duck over egg noodle. This noodle dish has cury powder and herb mix into the noodle as well.

Kao soy. Crispy Curry noodle you must try. The coconut hint and aroma of curry will make you curving when you leave Thailand. One of my favorite all the time ( It is in the right corner of my picture)

Lard nah is the light gravy sauce with Chinese broccoli. You can ask for Crispy noodle ,thin noodle or wild rice noodle as well.

Pad see ew is also in this picture which a stir fried noodle with brown sauce and sweet soy sauce. They are similar and well know in the US. When you order them in Thailand make sure they do it the Thai way not Americanize. My husband got so mad having expensive Pad see ew before.

Thai people love noodle for lunch or late night meal. There are more noodle you should try like Koa soy, Kuey tiew Moo Toon ,Ka Nom Jeen Naam Ngaew,Suki Naam,Guay Tiew Gai Ma Ra,Bha Mhee Mhoo Daeng,Guay Tiew Look Chin Kae,Guay Tiew Moo/ Nuea Thoon,Guay Tiew Tom Yum Goong

kao moo dang. Crispy BBQ pork over rice with pink gravy is recommend as well .They served with hard boil egg and Chinese sausage.

Kao kluk ka pi is a flavorful dish in Thai cuisine that consists of primary ingredients of fried rice mixed with shrimp paste, the latter of which is known as "kapi" in Thai. The dish is typically served with several side dishes or toppings, such as sliced cucumber, sliced shallot, onion or purple onion, deep-fried or fried shrimp, shredded or thinly sliced sour green mango, chili peppers, deep-fried chili peppers, sliced thin egg omelet or crêpe, sweetened roasted pork, pork belly (Chinese mu wan), Chinese sausage such as kun chiang, and mackerel, among others. It has been described as a salad dish per the vegetables that accompany the dish, and as possessing the flavors of saltiness per the shrimp paste, sweetness per the fruits, and spiciness, per the chili peppers. Personally the place I got this dish is ok ,not that impressive.

Moo yang kao lee. If you only know Korean BBQ , Thai has it too. We call them Moo kao lee or Moo ka ta. Most of the place is all you can eat. The restaurant might charge you 200 baht per person ,you can get all you can get!!! Mostly seafood items, marinated pork, beef , meat ball, all kind of vegetable. Don't miss the spicy sauce they provided and desert section. You should try them while you visit Thailand and you will surprise how Thai style BBQ is

Joke or Rice soup. I love to have rice soup for breakfast. You might get a hard time find Toasted , Waffle and bacon in the morning, but easy to find there Rice soup around the corner. The rice soup has ginger, pork, liver and green onion. My husband hate this dish and he can't even look at it

Pla muk ping or Grill squid. You can not miss it if you are the fan of sea food. I love this grill squid till dead. I miss it so much when I was in The US. I had a chance to try these

Somtum , kao neauw , Kai yang

Somtum is papya salad. You will amaze when you try it! The texture of papaya and the sauce is just right.

Koa neauw is Sticky rice to eat with papaya salad

Kai yang is BBQ grill chicken. I highly recoment this set !

Yom Sab kradook moo is lemon glass, onion, basil and kaffir lime leave with short pork rip soup. The flavor is sour, salty ,little sweet and spicy

Larb and namtok typical Eastern Thai food

The name is derived either from the dripping of the meat juices during the grilling or from the juices running out of the medium rare beef as it is sliced. This dish can be regarded as a variation on the standard larb, and is made from barbecued pork or beef, usually the neck, which is sliced to bite-size pieces. The meat is then brought to a boil with some stock to create sauce. The heat is turned off, and then sliced shallots, ground roasted rice, chili powder, lime juice, and fish sauce are added, along with shredded coriander leaves, spring onions and mint leaves.

I am so hungry writing about food. I can't wait to get back to Thailand this year and enjoy the food I always miss
